SpringHouse by EcoQuest – repair issues
At one time I was the top seller of the SpringHouse whole house water purification system, a product I like and fuly believe in. Long before EcoQuest sold to Vollara and SpringHouse was dropped from the product mix, it became quite evident that the company had lost interest in the product. I continue to provide filters for customers of mine who own the SpringHouse. UV bulbs, quartz sleeves, and ballasts may no longer be available. One problem that seemed to plague some owners of SpringHouse was the issue of canister failure. Continue reading
A Test Of City Water Finds Two Violations
City water reports provide both the average value of a contaminant and the range including the highs and lows. A customer of mine who is trying to regain her health recently asked me to test her city’s water. I normally rely on city water reports but she wanted some insight into the water at her faucet. USEPA regulates the level of contaminants that public agencies are allowed to provide to their customers. But what most people don’t realize is that these agencies can exceed the standards from time to time as long as the annual average remains within the limits set by EPA. All city water will contain some form of chlorine and its carcinogenic byproducts. For this reason I recommend that every home have a water filter, but which filter you need depends on what’s in your water.
What Are The Minerals In Water?
The minerals in water will vary due to the make up of the local rock and soils where the water resides before it emerges as surface water. Even rain and snow melt will pick up minerals from surrounding earth as it flows downstream. Every water source is different due to this fact. This article discusses the most common minerals in water. Continue reading
Which Bottled Water Will You Drink This Summer?
It’s my view that the concern felt among consumers about contaminants in bottled water is exaggerated. I’ve reviewed the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) study that listed contaminants found in bottled water and conclude that for the most part bottled water is safe. I drink bottled water when I travel. Otherwise I drink appropriately filtered tap water. My preference is to drink local spring water with a slightly alkaline pH. You’ll also find a link to a report in which I recommend specific regional (U.S. only) bottled waters for only 99 cents, less than the cost of a bottle of water.
One Fine Mess…It’s National Drinking Water Week
This is national drinking water week and I’m wondering what that means to you. Probably not much. The American Water Works Association is suggesting that we focus this week on our drinking water infrastructure. But there are problems with the water supply system in the United States. One big problem is the fact that while some cities discharge sewage into our rivers other cities withdraw that water downstream and use it as their drinking water supply. Another problem is the use of pesticides on farm land with known carcinogenic impacts on people. These pesticides end up in our rivers and lakes after a rain and also contribute to health problems for people who bathe in or drink this water. So while the American Water Works Association celebrates National Drinking Water week I am writing this and wondering how we’re going to get out of this mess.
How Important Are Minerals in Your Water?
Many people are under the impression that it is important to drink water containing natural minerals. The logic follows then, and it is a widespread belief, that it is bad to drink water that has been processed by reverse osmosis because it has been stripped of its mineral content. Both of these assumptions are generalizations that may lead you down the wrong path toward health. My conclusion is that while minerals in water might be nice, they are not the most important factor when considering how to treat your drinking water. The level of minerals (tds) and the presence of contaminants are the things to consider when determining whether a simple kitchen filter, a whole house water filter, or reverse osmosis is the appropriate water purification system for the water that’s coming out of your tap.
How Do I Remove Lead from My Well Water?
A customer called who has lead in his drinking water. Well water test results also show the presence of copper and zinc and low pH. Therefore I can assume that the acidic water is dissolving fixtures in the home and that is the source of these metals. I will treat the house to raise pH. When treating well water starting with a thorough water test is the key to correctly identifying and solving the problem. Continue reading
Avoid Atrazine In Water
Atrazine, an herbicide commonly used on row crops, is another one of those contaminants that is dangerous at the lowest of levels. A frog that is born in water containing only 1 ppb of atrazine will develop both male and female sex organs. I suggest that you avoid atrazine altogether. Continue reading
The Benefits of a Raw Juice Cleanse
I always figured nature provides perfectly balanced food, including the important fiber which we lose through juicing. My research proved to me that there are some big benefits to a short juice fast for an already healthy person and even greater benefits of juicing for someone who is not in great health. Continue reading
I Found Uranium In My Drinking Water
Three years ago I discovered uranium in my body. I did a hair analysis at that time in order to determine the levels of minerals in my body. I wasn’t expecting to see uranium. Having tried various filters I finally came across one that is specific to uranium and nitrates. Nitrates are also dangerous carcinogens and I have low levels (2.5 ppm) in my water. I’ll be doing a spring raw juice cleanse and a heavy metals detox using natural zeolyte in the coming weeks. Continue reading
