Bacteria in City Water is causing sickness and death. Illness and Deaths due to contaminated city water has increaased, according to new reports by the Center for Disease Control. Interestingly, most of the problems stem from bacteria, in particular Legionella, which was also discovered in the water towers at Disney World just recently.
‘These outbreaks led to at least 1,006 cases of illness, 124 hospitalizations and 13 deaths across Alaska, Arizona, Florida, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Maryland, Michigan, Montana, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia and Wisconsin.’

This suggests to me is that it is not being over precautious to add Ultra Violet light to your home water purification systems. I have not typically recommended UV in the past because city water is chlorinated. The chlorine is supposed to deliver water to your house that is free of bacteria. But an environmental consultant is suggesting that not enough chlorine remains in the pipes that bring city water to your house. Thus if the bacteria are in the system they may not be killed by chlorine.

It is my goal to always provide the appropriate system at the least cost to a family. If bacteria in city water is causing sickness and death thne it may be time to bolster your protection. This new awareness may cause me to at least mention the option of adding ultra violet light to a whole house water filter for greater protection.
Normally my focus is on removal of the chemicals added by cities as well as contaminants present in the source water, such as nitrates in farm country or pharmaceuticals downstream of other cities.
